The City of Windsor has received another A grade for climate change adaptation efforts from the CDP, or Carbon Disclosure Project, a global environmental impact organization which conducted a questionnaire on behalf of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. Windsor was one of only 88 cities in the world to receive top marks, with North American cities averaging a C grade. The city earned this distinction by providing public disclosure, a city-wide emissions inventory, an emissions reduction target, a climate risk and vulnerability assessment and a published climate action plan.
Future recommendations include updating and regularly evaluating risk assessment, ambitious adaptation target commitments to ensure the protection of vulnerable populations and the regular assessment of water risks when identifying emissions reduction and adaptation goals.
Windsor still has a long way to go, but being able to claim the title of climate leader along with only a small group of municipalities around the world is something to be proud of and build upon.
